Troon

Quiet, high-desert living among cactus and boulders, with two golf traditions and big views.

Our take

Troon is quiet because it takes a little effort to get there, and that's part of the appeal. When you wake up, there's no question you're in the desert: cactus, boulders and mountains all around. The elevation is a little higher, so the views are great.

Most homes were built in the 1990s, a mix of condos and single-family homes. Troon Country Club is private, and Troon North Golf Club is public, with two 18-hole courses.

More restaurants and shops have come to the area, and the road out along Pima was widened, so it doesn't feel as remote as it once did.
